The FCB presents a holiday classic featuring the 95 piece FCB Concert Band under the direction of Damien Crutcher presenting an entertaining array of concert band classics and holiday favorites. This year we are featuring our special guest soprano vocalist, Dr. Lynda Wood, who will perform "Three American Gospel Songs" with the FCB Concert Band.
Lynda Charese Wood, began her musical training in piano with Dr. Lawrence LaGore at the Detroit Conservatory of Music. Lynda enhanced her studies in vocal performance under the tutelage of Dr. Marilyn Jones and Brazeal Dennard while a student at Cass Technical High School. Lynda continued her voice studies with Marjorie Gordon, Caroline Grimes and currently with Karen Roberts of Brighton, Michigan.
Lynda has performed with several local musical groups including the Cantata Academy, Brazeal Dennard Chorale, Treble Tones, Detroit Choral Society and Madrigal Singers in the Metropolitan Detroit Area. Performances include, the International Music Educators Conference in Perth, Australia and Christmas at the White House. For several years, Lynda was the soprano soloist for Christ Church in Dearborn, Michigan and the Historic Christ Church in downtown Detroit. Lynda had her debut recital in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in February 2015.
Lynda received a Master’s degree and Specialist in Science Education along with a Doctorate in Education from Wayne State University in Curriculum and Instruction. She has served both Detroit and Southfield Public Schools as a teacher and administrator. Lynda recently retired as Superintendent for Southfield Schools but continues her commitment to public education by working for the Calhoun Intermediate School District. Her lifelong commitment to educational excellence and making a difference in the lives of children continues through music and exemplar teaching and learning.
